Jenny Wright

Jenny Wright first caught my eye in the Off-Broadway production of Album, where she co-starred with a then unknown Kevin Bacon and Keith Gordon, who has not been profiled on this blog yet, but should.

Supporting roles in The World According to Garp, Pink Floyd's The Wall and the made-for-television movie, The Executioner's Song followed, which lead to more exposure in The Brat Pack films, St. Elmo's Fire and Out of Bounds.

Had Jenny Wright continued on this path, she most likely would have moved up the Hollywood ladder. She certainly had the talent to be a major star. Instead, she went the independent route with top-notch performances in Near Dark, Twister (not the Helen Hunt movie) and I, Madman.

Fans of her independent work know of her potential. For those only familiar with her mainstream movies - you are missing out. Jenny Wright has since retired from acting, but will occasionally show up at b-movie conventions. This wonderful actress is still young enough to make a comeback. Let's keep our fingers crossed that she'll some day return. We miss you Ms. Wright.

  1. I like her but today she looks like 40 miles of rough road. I wonder why

  2. She did an interview with Fangoria a few years back. She admitted that she derailed her career with years of drinking and drugs. It aged her horribly, she's 55 now, but looks 70. She used to have this velvety voice and now it's this old lady's croak. It's a shame, she's also broke and recently had to do a GoFundMe to raise $7,000 to get a new truck since her's had died.

  3. She was amazing in Near Dark, and I remember her in The Wild Life. I definitely need to see more of her films.

  4. It so sad that people like Anon from 10/6/17 want women to be ashamed of aging! I guess women should just die after 25?

  5. I didn't read that from the referenced post. The statement was that abusing your body with drugs and alcohol ages you prematurely whether you are a man or woman. Read every word before you jump on someone with imagined insult.

    1. Yeah but it's like a harsh critique. Throwing stones.. and being super critical of someone who for whatever reason suffered the need to self medicate. At the end of the day we're all going to change in our appearance, and it doesn't even need to be self inflicted. Illness can also age a person prematurely and it's a cruel thing to be criticizing someone for it.

  7. I first saw her in Pink Floyd, The Wall. My impression of her at the time...her face reminded me of a china doll. Absolutely flawless beauty.

  9. Not just drinking and drugs, she descended into mental illness as well...and there's no escape from that!

  10. I love reading the comments and seeing people talking with the limbo, like comments made years gone by

  11. She was in a little known movie called 'Twister' (not the tornado movie with Helen Hunt) but a different one. And several other movies, actually. And sadly, she does seem to suffer from mental illness, and has not aged well.
