Steve Inwood

Steve Inwood is one of the many talented actors that seems to have disappeared from the film and television industry. As far as I know he's still alive, but appears to have not made a movie in over ten years.

One of the reasons people may not have heard of him is because most of his work was either as a guest star in numerous television shows, co-starring roles in movies that not many people saw, like Prince of the City, or smaller roles in high profile films like Fame where the young ensemble had much more screen time. In Fame, he played the sleazy photographer that gets Irene Cara to take her top off. He only has two scenes, but he's hard to keep your eyes off of in them.

He also has probably gone unnoticed all of these years because he completely changes in appearance from role to role. For what's it's worth, I've noticed his work and am extremely impressed.

Check out his work in Staying Alive, The Human Shield, Fame and the made-for-television movie A Question of Honor and see for yourself why Steve Inwood is my pick today for Not Very Famous...but should be.

Oh, and Mr. Inwood; if you should happen to stumble upon this, let us know what you're up to.

  3. thank you for your blog. You are the only one that has the most information about this actor. Not Wikipedia nor IMDb have info about this actor, not even a picture. Now I know the name of the choreographer in "Staying Alive". Great actor in deed.

  5. amazing actor and a GREAT human being. Wrote to him many years ago in the 80's when going thru a serious cancer fight and watched his performances and really gave me the strength to fight on, thou doctors told me, forget it baby, NO chance... So I wrote him to thank him and got an amazing letter and photo and its been hanging on my wall in pristine condition for almost 29 years! I pass it every day and always pray that whatever he is doing he is well and happy, and although I have another health battle ahead of me I just found out about once more, I plan on getting my Inwood collection out and hopefully it will bring me the same luck it did a quarter-century ago. Steve, email me if you are out there. My family and I owe you a lot and would love to repay you in some small way. I hope you will remember me. For everyone else, we all have had our problems in life, but this man has the most pure heart and is truly a good person. Maybe TOO good- truly sensitive people sometimes find it difficult in this world, but that is what makes them such great artists. Steve, you are always going to be the best to me. They hand out Emmy's and Oscar's today for such trivial work when some of your performances so surpassed anything they have got. The old adage, life is truly unfair, well in Hollywood, it IS! God bless you my friend and my sis sends her love too. Michelle
PSTell your readers to make sure you check out his appearance in Valley of the Dolls 1981 with Lisa Hartman and Veronica Hamel- if you think how he chewed it up in Stayin' Alive was excellent, wait until you check this out. It's a made for t.v. two- parter, Really good. As always, he steals it from rest of the cast.

    3. I worked with Steve back in the 70's at Thursdays Restaurant, part of the original Fridays organization. I was a bartender and Steve was a waiter and aspiring actor who worked tirelessly to get a break. Wendy Malik and Debbie Harry were waiteresses! What a crew. Steve was a great guy and I'm glad to hear he's doing well. Look me up in Pompano Beach Florida if you're ever in South Florida Steve. Would love to see you again!

  6. You're right Mike, he should have an imdb and wiki page. I had a crush on this actor in the late 70's/early eighties, he was also in Cruising. He had a great look for back then and I see a photo in google images of him as a soldier looking a little older maybe in the 90's (?) Steve if you see this, I still think you are the bees knees and hope to see your name in a future cast list, and if not, thank you for being my crush :) Karen/UK

  7. I looked Steve Inwood up because ever since I saw him as the sleazy photographer in Fame - that's thirty three years ago - I've broken into grins and outright laughter at totally inapproprate moments over and over again, finding myself behind a sensuous woman on an escalator, or passing a beauty in tight jeans with heart-shaped hips, topped by a soft sweater, and all I can think of is e-vous, Coco, e-Vous. Can you take your top off? Now, put your thumb in your mouth, like you're a little schoolgirl [sleazy sniff]. And I'm in stitches. Thanks to the other comments here - I've never seen this blog before - I'll check his other work. I wanted to tell him how he has brightened my days so very many times. As michellerio comments, there are many actors who get recognized for work you forget by the time you return from the theater, but Steve so inhabited that character in Fame, I will remember and enjoy him til I breathe my last.

    1. Jack I thought I was the only one!! That scene from the movie Fame has stayed with me over the years as well. He was sleazy, yet hilarious at the same time!! I quote the e-vous line all the time and no one ever knows what I'm refering to. I always have to explain...of course I'm doing this while laughing hysterically! At least I know now that I'm not alone in the world.:) It is a funny, memorable and quote worthy scene.

  9. The first movie I saw him in, which was probably also his biggest part, was the villain in a B-movie called The Human Shield. He played a raspy voiced evil Iraqi general. Then I was able to see an episode of Wonder Woman from like 25 years earlier and he sounded totally different and was like the handsome hero of the episode. He got a date with Wonder Woman at the end.

  10. He came to my house for the weekend after wrapping Staying Alive, my husband met him at his restaurant in Manhattan and invited Steve and his girlfriend to come out for the weekend. They were the sweetest couple. Steve was funny and charming.

  11. He was also great as a junkie in Frank Sinatras TV movie " Contact on Cherry Street. I hope he's doing well and happy. Hey Hollywood , give this guy a job. He'll knock it out of the park.

All the best Steve and as much as I loved Travolta in that movie , your parts were very memorable and I loved your look and stage presence on screen , very commanding !

  16. Just watched Contract on Cherry Street again after so many years and Steve Inwood's performance steals the show in this movie. There's always one character that does that in every movie and he is it in this one. I was working for Columbia Pictures in New York at the time this movie was made and got to meet Frank Sinatra. Also knew Jay Black. He was married to my husband's cousin. Steve Inwood is an under rated actor and should come back to acting.
